It’s interesting how sometimes a creative process takes a step in one direction and then turns around again. Noise maker friend Adam Bruin helped me to make an electronic soundtrack for the show, ‘She Melts’. His work was innovative and interesting and very complementary to the story but in practice putting a live show to a recorded track is like squeezing into a wet suit that’s two sizes too small. It really limits movement. That’s when Sue Moxon came along with her many instruments and love of storytelling but Adam’s input made a big impression all the same.
Adam began creating a pre-recorded soundscape for the show based on many hours of hunting and blending and on a stunning understanding of where I’m coming from with it (which was really encouraging). He also got me interested in to some incredible music by talented artists such as Inuit throat singer, Tanya Tagak whose music is so raw, confronting and incredible powerful. Also Norwegian ice musician Terje Isungset who crafts his instruments incredibly from actual ice.
So thanks for your encouragement Adam! It was fun working and playing together.
Below is the choice of photos that Adam provided for me to use on this post. It was impossible to choose just one!
